Jakob J. Provo of DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers in Wichita, authored the lead article of the February 2026 Journal of the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association: "The Price Tag Fallacy: Why Medical Bills Do Not Measure Human Loss". The article reasons that "the law and the logic align on a single, decisive principle: justice is found in the evidence of the human loss, not in the administrative cost of the repair".

KTLA’s officers will rotate at the fourth quarter Board of Governors meeting scheduled for June 6, 2024, in Wichita. The officers are the president, incoming president, treasurer, and immediate past president.

“In the last two and a half years, we’ve taken seven cases to trial. Some have gone better than others, and we haven’t always gotten the result we hoped for. But in six of the seven, we obtained a better outcome than the last pre trial offer made by the defense. Jordan Massey, Slape & Howard, Wichita, has been appointed by Governor Laura Kelly to serve on the State Civil Service Board. The board hears appeals from classified state employees with permanent status under the Kansas civil service act, as well as applicants for classified positions who are entitled by law and regulation to appeal to the Board. Congratulations, Jo!

You are most likely aware of KTLA’s long-standing commitment to assist trial lawyers and the court through the amicus curiae process whenever there is a case on appeal that affects KTLA’s mission. And if you’d like to request that KTLA submit a brief in your case, please review and submit this form. But researching, drafting, and filing amicus briefs is not the only way the Amicus Curiae Committee advocates for KTLA members.

All KTLA members are invited to join any of the four program committees. No experience is required to serve – the only prerequisite is interest and a commitment to participate. Committee members serve for one year (July – June) and then may decide to continue or retire.
